Scientific background
I started my studies in the University of Trento where I obtained a bachelor degree in Biomolecular sciences and Technologies, afterwards I moved to the University of Bologna for my Master’s degree in Medical Biotechnology. During this period, I developed a strong interest in genetics and how a better understanding of disease mechanisms can open the road to innovative therapeutic approaches and treatments. For this reason I decided to move to Nijmegen to pursue my PhD on blindness genetics, focusing on the identification and functional validation of novel pathogenic variants in inherited retinal diseases, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Cremers. Now I’m excited to start working as a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Prof. Dr. Rob Collin where I will investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying RNU4-2 associated retinal disease.
Hobbies outside science
In my free time, I like walks in nature and to go on hiking trips in new and exciting destinations. I also enjoy reading, puzzling, knitting and music. In particular, I love going to the theatre to watch musicals and opera.
